    Process

This process is made up of four stages; Hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation and remodelling.

    • Stage 1 Hemostasis

This takes place immediately after occurring the injury and involves stopping the bleeding. To reduce blood loss your vessels, constrict and plates then accumulate to form a clot to provide a temporary barrier.

    • Stage 2 Inflammation

This stage takes place between day 1 to day 6. One can experience redness, pain and swelling. The body produces and sends white blood cells to the injured area to fight against any bacteria.

    • Stage 3 Proliferation

This stage takes place between day 3 to day 21. This is where the body develops new tissue to seal the wound. Collagen is developed to remould the structure of the skin and blood vessels regrow. With the regrowth of the blood vessels and the production of collagen the wound now starts to close.

    • Stage 4 Remodelling

This stage takes place between week 3 and up to 2 years. Collagen fibers are developing, strengthening the newly developed tissue. This stage the scar will slowly start fading.
