Effectively eliminating Varicose Veins and Superficial Telangiectasia that are blue in colour
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure that is used to treat varicose veins and spider veins that are blue in colour. We normally use a laser to treat the red spider veins. This involves injecting a solution called a sclerosant directly into the affected veins. The solution irritates the vein lining this causing the vein to collapse, stick together, and eventually the body reabsorbs the damaged vein. Over time the vein fades from view and the veins deeper in the skin take over the role of the damaged vein.
The majority of persons who have sclerotherapy performed will be cleared of their varicosities or at least see good improvement, enough to be able to wear a skirt or shorts without being self-conscience. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that it will be effective for everybody. About 10% of clients that undergo Sclerotherapy have poor results. That means that the veins have not totally disappeared after 6 treatments. This normally means there is an underlying conditions and we then refer to a vein specialist.
The number of treatments to clear or improve the condition differs from client to client. One to six treatments are needed, the norm is three to four. Individual veins usually require one to three treatments.
There is the Vascular Pulsed Dye laser or the ND Yag. These lasers are expensive but treat the red veins very effectively. Not all medical aids will cover this treatment.
If you notice any type of adverse reaction, please call the doctor immediately.
Before your procedure, you’ll meet with a trained, certified aesthetician who’ll evaluate your situation and inform you about the process. They’ll evaluate your skin and may ask questions.
